Snackercising (also known as exercise snacking) is a simple fitness concept: instead of trying to fit in one long workout, you break movement into very short bursts (around 20–60 seconds) repeated throughout the day. The aim is to build towards the recommended 30 minutes of moderate exercise daily, in a way that fits around real life.
Snackercising is about doing “little and often”. You complete a short bout of activity, then get on with your day. Over time, those small bursts can add up and help you build consistency without needing a dedicated gym session.
Snackercising is accessible to everyone because it requires no equipment and can be done anytime, anywhere.
It’s particularly helpful for:
A practical approach is to complete one “snack” every three hours. Each snack includes one or two exercises and totals no more than six minutes.
Here’s an example day:
7am - Stand on one leg (1 minute each side) whilst brushing your teeth
10am - Bodyweight squats (12 reps) and seated upper body rotations (10 each side), 3 sets
1pm - Single leg glute bridge (8 each side) and dead bug (8 each side), 3 sets
4pm - Press ups (12 reps) and hip flexor stretch (30 seconds each leg), 3 sets
7pm - Calf raise (20 reps) and cat camel mobility exercise (10 reps), 3 sets
10pm - Stand on one leg (1 minute each side) whilst brushing your teeth
Snackercising can be a simple way to increase daily activity and reduce the risk associated with a sedentary lifestyle. It can also help to boost energy levels and support cardiovascular fitness.
Because it includes regular strength and mobility work, it may support maintaining muscle mass and strengthening bone density. Many people also find it helps with weight management.
Just as importantly, building small, realistic habits can improve mental wellbeing and self-esteem, and it can increase motivation to exercise by improving adherence.
If you’re managing pain, returning from injury, or want to build a plan around your goals, sports physiotherapy can help you choose the right exercises and progress safely.
